What Alex Hormozi Taught Me About Killer VSLs (and Why You’re Doing Them Wrong)

What Alex Hormozi Taught Me About Writing High-Converting VSLs

Published by Kraken Media

Ever spent hours perfecting a VSL (video sales letter) only for your audience to click away in seconds? Same. I used to think it was just me—until I discovered Alex Hormozi.

His advice flipped everything I thought I knew about VSLs. Now, I use his framework to build videos that don’t just get watched—they convert. Here’s what I learned, and how you can use the same techniques in your next script.

1. Lead With Pain, Not Fluff

Most VSLs open with generic intros. Hormozi says: start with the pain. Hook the audience immediately by addressing the problem they’re feeling.

Instead of saying, “Let me tell you about this product,” say something like, “Tired of wasting money on ads that don’t convert?”

2. Stack the Value

Don’t just list features—stack the value. Make the offer feel like a no-brainer. Think beyond “course + bonus” and paint a picture of transformation.

Example: “You’re not just getting a course. You’re getting templates, 1-on-1 support, weekly check-ins, and a community that keeps you accountable.”

3. Marry Pain with Solution

This is where the magic happens. Show the pain—then immediately introduce how your offer solves it. Hormozi calls this offer-to-problem alignment.

Instead of just stating features, say: “Struggling with ghosted leads? Our system sends personalised follow-ups that actually get responses.”

4. Test Your Hooks

Guessing is the enemy of results. Hormozi recommends testing multiple hooks to find the one that lands.

In one of my own tests, a single hook tripled watch time. Don’t assume—let the numbers tell the story.

5. CTA With Confidence

Your call to action should be bold, not bashful. Say: “Click the link. Let’s get started.” Not: “If you’d like to, maybe click below?”

Confidence converts.

Bonus: Tools I Use for Better Scripts

Hormozi’s principles work best when your scripts are clear and clean. Here are two tools I use daily:

Final Thoughts

Hormozi’s advice isn’t fluff—it’s a framework. When I started using it, I stopped guessing and started converting. You can do the same.
